Purpose of a Speech - TO INFORM: How should your audience react

What are the three main purposes of a speech?

The purpose of a speech is to somehow change the audience you are talking to. There must be some reaction. You are expecting a response. It could be "Oh, that was interesting, I've learned something", or "Yes, I'll go and vote for you". While there are three major purposes there are others to consider. Each has a different audience outcome.

The three main purposes of a speech are: to inform (informative), to persuade(persuasive) or to entertain (entertaining). In this session, we will discuss the informative speech.

Informative

The informative speech style is meant to instruct. It is very much like teaching those you are speaking to.

This speech style is typically focused and to the point because the speaker aims to be clear and educate. College professors and trainers are likely to give informative speeches.

CONCLUSION

I hope this session on Informative Speeches and their purpose has been useful. Your aim in an informative speech is to give information to your audience that they did not know already.
