What should I say at a wedding?
You're the best man. You've been asked to give a speech. What do you say? In this session, we will cover all you need to know in order to give a great presentation.
A wedding speech is also called a 'toast'. It is short. You should prepare it, in writing, before you speak. You should definitely rehearse it before you give it.
There are 3 parts to a great wedding speech:
Beginning
Thank the groom for the opportunity to express how happy you are to congratulate the couple on their special day.
Middle
Explain how you met the groom.
Describe how you got to know him better . . . and learned his good characteristics (and bad features - optional but always light-hearted).
Select what you feel is the groom's best characteristic.
Give an example that illustrates the groom’s best characteristic. The one that you love about him (eg always punctual, remembers birthdays, loves food).
End
Explain how this makes him a great husband for his bride.
Ask the guests to toast the bride and groom and wish them a happy life together.
Conclusion
I hope this session on how to write a great wedding speech has been useful. We have covered the atmosphere that you want to create at the reception, the structure of a brilliant speech and how to end your talk gracefully. Every success.
